The Australian share market has closed up for the eighth time in 10 sessions, with the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index coming tantalisingly close to breaking the 7,000 mark.
Ultimately the index finished on Wednesday at 6,994.8 points, up 32.6 points, or 0.47 per cent, and traded as high as 6,996.8.
Australia’s broader All Ordinaries index closed up 35.5 points, or 0.5 per cent, at 7,113.5 points.
The Australian dollar was buying 68.96 US cents, down from 69.0 US cents at Tuesday’s close.
